Aitherios Theatre brings to life lovingly presented, inventive storytelling.
We pilfer from our international make-up to garner ingredients for a bold and imaginative theatre that brings our audience into direct contact with several cultures.
A pleasure in the ridiculous and the conviction that theatre is as deadly serious as a child’s game are at the heart of our shows, which engage with complex and sensitive notions.
Work Process
There are no rules about what we make or how we make it.
We’re imaginative.
We tell stories.
We’re the kind of people who’d like to have a drink at the bar with you after the show.
In devising, we use all our varied skills: improvisaton, clown, acrobatics, puppetry, mask, live music and contact dance. As the company includes several international members, we often perform in several languages, playing with rhythms, images and the (hilarious and trying) misunderstandings of multilingualism.
Background
The founding members of Aitherios Theatre all suffered together under the whip of Philippe Gaulier at his school in Paris. They left the school, licked their wounds and decided to found a company based on what they had learnt: The pleasure to be idiot and the need to be beautiful on the stage.
